ANIMATION

An animated simulation can be very helpful in turning a confusing testimony of multiple witnesses into a clear presentation that jurors can comprehend. Its production is usually recommended, when accident reenactment by actors is too dangerous or impractical.

There are several types of animated presentations. Each one offers unique set of advantages.

Animated Diagram: This is a basic form of animated presentation. It uses simple geometric shapes as substitute for persons and objects involved in the accident. The sequence of events is then demonstrated with motion. Voice-over narration and simulated sounds of impact can also be added.

Basic "3-D" Animation: This computer-generated, pseudo 3-D, presentation creates the illusion of depth. The animated objects resemble major physical characteristics of persons or objects, like shapes, colors, and proportions, but show no detail.

"Photo Realistic" Animation: This is the most sophisticated type of animation. It allows a recreation of the accident from the multiple points of view, bringing a drama of the accident into the courtroom. Ironically, it often becomes a target of objections, during the legal proceedings, over the degree of realism of the depicted scenes.
